Resolution #10 – I will tolerate those handmade bandanas more.
Oh, let’s face it, bandanas can be pretty cute, jaunty, even. If you must indulge this whim, so be it. But only if your buddy likes them. He will tell you by either pawing at it or wearing it proudly. Don’t force it. Introduce the bandana gradually. Hold it in your hand and let him sniff and investigate, if he looks at you praise and treat. Lay it quietly across his neck and just let it hang there. If he leaves it alone, praise and treat and tie it on. The battle, if there was going to be one, may already be over. The key, of course, is to create some communication between the two of you, continuing to build trust and deepen the relationship.
Well, that’s the end of this year’s resolutions. I hope you have learned something or, at the very least, found food for thought. I will be continuing to post training suggestions about a wide variety of subjects for the days, weeks and months ahead. There are many ways to approach a single problem and, every dog is different. Not every training tip will resonate for every owner which is to be expected. Check back in, I’m sure I can help find a solution for whatever challenge you might have. Post questions, if you have them. I promise to do my level best via the written word. You can always find The Courteous Canine on Facebook or through the website www.thecourteousk9.com
